What is Botox Cosmetic?

Botox is one of most sought after cosmetic treatments in the market to date. Anyone from ages 18 to over 60 are receiving Botox treatment to rid themselves of premature wrinkles to deep set frown lines and crow’s feet. Botox has a reputation like no other and it’s easy to see why it is the top choice of men and women everywhere.

Botox cosmetic is one of the trade names for the purified protein produced by the bacterium Clostridum botulinum. In extremely large doses, this protein can produce botulinism. However, the miniscule dosages of Botox used to produce the desired cosmetic effects have been proven to be very safe and very effective, hence Botox’s preceding reputation.

Botox cosmetic is injected in the problem area, such as the frown lines, also known as the glabellar which is the area between the eyebrows, causing the muscles to not move. The muscle tissue in that area will always be relaxed; therefore the constant pull on your skin when you show any emotions will be zero. Eventually, your skin will start to smooth out and the wrinkles and frown lines that haunted your face will start diminishing. If you choose to continue treatment, it is recommended to re-treat every 3 to 4 months.

How safe is Botox?

Botox cosmetic was approved by the FDA for the treatment of glabellar frown lines in April of 2002. Botulinum toxin has a long history of medical use dating back at least twenty years. When injected correctly by a trained physician, Botox has an extremely good safety record. Today, Botox cosmetic treats more than just the frown lines of the glabellar area!

Remember, when making the decision to use Botox or any other cosmetic filler, to do your research first! Your best bet is going to a dermatologist who has experience and can give the injection correctly, than someone who offers it cheap and does not have the dermatological expertise.
