The AviClear laser is the first and only FDA-cleared energy device for the treatment of mild, moderate, and severe acne. Notably, this treatment does not rely on oral or topical medications that are typically used to treat this condition. The AviClear laser is distinctive due to its specific wavelength of light (1726 nm) that selectively targets oil glands (sebaceous glands) in the skin, which are at the root cause of acne. No other device on the market does this.
How Does it Work?
Acne is the most common dermatological condition, and it affects over 50 million people. In acne, the sebaceous glands produce excess oil (called sebum), which combines with dead skin cells that form a plug (called a comedo) that clogs the pores. These clogged pores create an ideal environment for bacteria to grow, resulting in the characteristic acne lesions. The AviClear specifically targets acne at its source, the sebaceous glands.
How is AviClear Different?
Acne is typically treated by various combinations of topical and oral medications. While effective to varying degrees, these treatment regimens typically require strict adherence to maintain clearance and may not be well tolerated. For severe acne patients, or those who fail or cannot tolerate these regimens, oral retinoids (i.e., Accutane) may be considered.
However, there are serious risks that need to be considered with these medications. Until now, oral retinoids were the only way of controlling the production of sebum and offering long-term clearance. Existing devices for the treatment of acne are neither particularly effective nor long-lasting. Fortunately, AviClear can effectively target these same sebaceous glands, providing lasting clearance.
What is the AviClear treatment experience like?
AviClear is an essentially painless procedure that takes approximately 30 minutes to perform. There is no downtime, and patients can resume regular activities immediately. A series of 3 treatments performed 4 weeks apart has been shown to significantly eliminate acne. Mild erythema and swelling may be visible for a few days. Some patients experience a purging of their acne up to two weeks after the first treatment. AviClear treatments can be performed year-round and are safe for all skin types and tones.
How effective is AviClear?
The results keep getting better. From clinical trials, we know that after 3 treatment sessions, 90% of patients experienced visible improvement in their acne, and 87% saw at least half of their acne clear. There was a 93% reduction in inflammatory acne lesions within the first six months of treatment. According to 12-month clinical data, improvement increased to 92%, which confirms the long-term clearance claim. No other device for acne can make this claim.
