Botox
| boe·tox
Made by Allergan, Botox is a brand name for a chemical called botulinum toxin type A. Though botulinum toxin has been studied since the 1820s (really), it was approved by the FDA for the treatment of wrinkles and facial lines in 2002. Dr. Doppelt uses Botox to treat moderate to severe lines in between eyebrows (called glabellar lines), crow’s feet around the sides of the eye, lines around the mouth area and chin, and forehead lines.
Botox works to smooth these lines because it relaxes the underlying muscles. Many patients will see lines smooth within a week of treatment and enjoy results lasting several months or more.
Juvéderm
| joo·vih·derm
This popular facial filler comes in several “flavors” including Volbella and Ultra XC for lips, Vollure for fine lines around the mouth, and Voluma for the cheeks. Your treatment goals depend on which formula is used: Juvéderm Voluma XC is an injectable gel that can be used to add volume to the cheek area and correct age-related volume loss; Juvéderm XC can be used to smooth out moderate to severe parentheses lines, frown lines and wrinkles around your nose and mouth; and Juvéderm Ultra XC is used to plump lips for a fuller, more youthful pout.
