The American Cancer Society estimates that one American dies from skin cancer every hour. This year, it’s estimated that there will be more than 73 thousand new cases of melanoma, which is the most deadly form of skin cancer.
But you can reduce your risk! The Friday before Memorial Day is referred to as “Don’t Fry Day” to encourage skin cancer prevention and awareness. For those of you soaking up some rays for the first time this season, be sure to take smart precautions to keep your skin safe and healthy. Reduce your risk of overexposure to UV rays with some of these tips:
- Seek shade as often as possible while outdoors
- Wear sun-protective clothing, sunglasses and a hat that shields your face
- Generously apply sunscreen SPF 30 or higher
- Reapply sunscreen every hour
